Fax
- How does CurbTalker interact with faxes?
CurbTalker will stop if it detects the caller is a fax machine. Then your fax machine can answer the call and accept the fax.
If you need to use fax software on your computer, you will need to install PhoneValet. PhoneValet is completely compatible with the fax features built
into Mac OS 10.4 or later, and can direct fax calls to
your computer's modem via Apple's fax software. For a superior fax
experience, PhoneValet also integrates with the pagesender fax software and your computer's modem to receive faxes.
Miscellaneous
- Can CurbTalker transfer a call to my cell phone or another number?
Yes, if you have call transfer service on your phone line. You simply create a transfer mailbox choice in your call tree for the caller to choose. When the caller accesses the transfer mailbox, PhoneValet will transfer the call to the number you have set in the voice mail preferences. You can configure as many different transfer choices as you like.
PhoneValet transfers a call by flashing the line, dialing the new number, and hanging up. This is sometimes known as Centrex-style or blind transfer. Many telephone companies provide this service but it is often not advertised. If you wish to use call transfer, please contact your phone company to ask for this service.
- Can I run PhoneValet, PhoneHerald, and/or CurbTalker on the same computer?
Yes. If you wish to run PhoneValet on the same computer as PhoneHerald and/or CurbTalker, you must have the latest version of PhoneValet. PhoneValet, PhoneHerald, and CurbTalker use the same Parliant telephony adapter.
- Does CurbTalker support call waiting?
CurbTalker does not support call waiting. CurbTalker will log the first call, but if you switch to the second call, CurbTalker will consider the first call over and will not log the second call.
CurbTalker also can not answer more than one call at the same time on a single phone line. If you need to answer more than one call simultaneously, you will need an additional phone line, and an additional CurbTalker package.
- Does CurbTalker support distinctive ring?
CurbTalker will treat either ring pattern equally - it will not distinguish distinctive ring patterns. If you do not want CurbTalker to answer a specific ring pattern, you can purchase a distinctive ring filter to place on the phone line connected to CurbTalker. If you choose to do this, make sure you purchase a filter that will pass through caller ID signals.
- I already have PhoneValet. Can I purchase just the software for CurbTalker?
If you have version 2 of the Parliant telephony adapter, yes you can. A version 2 adapter is greyish in colour and has a serial number beginning with V2. The software-only version of CurbTalker can be purchased from Parliant's online store.
- I have more than one phone line — will CurbTalker work on all my lines?
You can purchase additional CurbTalker packages to work on more than one
phone line. CurbTalker can accommodate simultaneous
calling on several lines using a single Mac to help you get your calling
tasks completed quickly.
You may need to purchase an AC adapter-powered USB hub if you
run out of USB ports on your Mac.
- Is there a per-call charge for CurbTalker?
No. Because CurbTalker runs on your Macintosh and uses your phone line, Parliant does not charge a per-call fee for accepting calls.
- Why should I buy CurbTalker over the competition.?
CurbTalker runs on your own system and uses your own phone line. Not only does this eliminate per-call charges, but the data remains safe and secure on your Macintosh. It also means you can export the data to make custom reports in a spreadsheet or other software, or use the built-in reports in CurbTalker.
CurbTalker also sports an familiar MacOS interface making setup and configuration quick and easy.
Requirements
- Are Parliant's products compatible with DSL Internet services?
Yes, Parliant's telephony products will work fine on a phone line that also has "High-Speed"
DSL Internet service on it. Parliant's USB Telephone Adapter connects
to the phone line just like a telephone — so it requires a
DSL filter device in between it and the phone jack.
VOIP
- Do Parliant's products work with Skype or other VOIP services?
PhoneValet, CurbTalker, and PhoneHerald work with Vonage services that provide a gateway box that simulates a traditional analog phone line.
Software-only services such as Skype to not provide an interface to connect to PhoneValet, CurbTalker, or PhoneHerald. These services will not work.
VoiceMail
- Can I be notified of left messages via email, mobile phone, text message, or pager?
CurbTalker can email your messages on a per property basis. The message will be included as an attachment.
If you have an email-to-phone SMS gateway product such as MacSMS, CurbTalker can be configured to send a text message to a cell phone or pager. Also, if your cell phone or pager accepts messages via email, then CurbTalker can send messages to these devices.
CurbTalker currently can not call a pager or cellphone to notify you of voice mail.
